Happy Spring Everyone!
We have been preparing for this new season with an incredible amount of inspiration, passion and love in opening the space for a return to a natural livelihood in our growing efforts and day to day awareness to provide a place of connection and food to the greater community. I have come to very much behold the profound possibility of allowing the consciousness in us that lives beneath our mental processes to be the guiding force and wisdom toward communing with the land and allowing the work of rebuilding the soil to be a spiritual process which is naturally occurring, without the intervention of our human intellect as the primary agency of action. Not that there isn't a place for intellectual process in the work with the land and we don't use it, but I have come to greatly ponder and experience how when we allow the intellectual process to lead the engagement with the land, we very quickly lose all the possible levels of communication with Nature because Nature is not evolving, operating, or growing at all in that way. The incredible and incomprehensible vastness and interwoveness of Nature is capable of being fully embraced by the greater consciousness and awareness in us, but in no way beyond a faint glimmer by the intellectual mind in comparison. We can only grasp tiny strands in that way. In our work at the farm we utilize advances in understanding and research to work with the land, but we give a primary emphasis on communication and relationship with the land by utilizing practices for expanding consciousness and inhabiting the greater faculties latent within us; faculties that are very reduced and covered in the current culture. In this regard, we experience the land to have a very high level of consciousness which can convey information about how the land can best be engaged. Our 5 senses and intellectual faculties can only perceive a minutia of all of the chemical and biological processes and interactions in the soil, let alone understand how they all work together. It's not that highly useful and applicable information rendered by the work of people like Dr. Elaine Ingham in uncovering the soil food web isn't utterly effective and incredible to work with, which it is and which we do. Life as a whole, however, is fathomless and the further we look, it opens up to even bigger worlds within worlds that all interact and evolve beyond our level of comprehension to produce the world and life which we are and are a part of. The infinite interworkings of life cannot and will not ever be fully perceived by the five senses or the intellect, but only through the consciousness within us, which is connected to the origin of how everything emerges here and now. It's not for everyone to work this way, but we absolutely engage in both the best of science and spirituality and let the consciousness lead and guide the science. Through working this way, I have come to what I consider to be the best relationship I have experienced with the land, and I have participated in an incredible process of soil regeneration, and our own spiritual regeneration, as a hand in hand process. All of our work is centered on a here and now consciousness at this point, and allowing the exchange of information and care to be a reciprocal process with the land, while also utilizing the great works of people who are helping heal the land. Last year we began to implement soil building processes starting with highly undernourished land from this expansive level of rendering information and we were graced with an enormous abundance of incredibly vital, healthy and tasteful food that grew here, which many of our wonderful customers can attest to. I am very excited to be also expanding our observation capacities to monitor (what little we can actually see of) the changes and processes in the soil using microscope analysis through the works of Dr. Mary Lucero and Dr. Elaine Ingham. I am looking forward to learning how to observe and be clear at least in this aspect of analysis of how our soils are healing. Our primary soil enhancing processes at this point include a complete mulching of the entire garden, almost no soil or mulch disturbance, crop rotations, and providing for the soil through inoculation with worm casting based compost teas. We are building very biologically active composts and also will be growing our own worms for castings, feeding them both a great variety of local and wildcrafted herbs, garden residues, clean horse manure, and organic food scraps. I can perceive the exuberance waiting to erupt into the profoundly nutritious veggies that we plan to bring to all of you this year! Our first interns, Lily and Liv, have arrived for the season and we will be having another three people joining shortly and we are very excited for our journey this season together. Check out the wonderful experiences the interns shared from last year here. It is incredibly important to us to engage in helping others embrace the calling in them to return to the land and embody a way that engages this with our whole beings, and invites our communion and integration with all life and the cosmos. I think we can all relate to how hungry most of us are for this and I can't agree more that we need to have these conversations openly and not be afraid to bring up the world of the Spirit and the Heart, and how our true home in the cosmos is built upon these Foundations. The healing of the land begins with our own healing and both catalyze each other. We can't wait to connect with you all soon, and please sign up for our newsletter if you would like to purchase food from us this year, and we wish you the greatest of blessings and love this Spring! With Gratitude, Sol and Kendall
